RIGA — The cost of Latvian books and cultural services are increasing at by far the fastest rate in the EU, a recent eurostat study has found.
The cost of books in Latvia has increased by more than 43 percent in the past five years, significantly more than anywhere else in the EU. The next closest country was Hungary at around 31 percent, followed by Lithuania at just over 20 percent.
Latvia has also seen prices for cultural services skyrocket. Cultural services — such as theatre, cinema, concerts, museums and more — increased by an astonishing 72.3 percent. This compared to the next highest increases of around 39 percent in Lithunania, Estonia and Bulgaria.
